You never realize how long 18 months can be. Yeah sure, it’s only a year and half of your life, but have you ever considered how long that time is? How much of your life has just passed? How many events, both good and bad have occurred in that span of time? To give you a clue, think back on everything I have written about, or at least tried to write about, not to mention all the little things that happen back home that never make it to the pages of my blog let alone the local newspaper. Below, you will see the numbers from my Donut of Misery. I came on orders December 1st of 2004. I was still in Pennsylvania and living with my roommates, but that is the day my life changed. I had to drop out of college since it was too early to take finals and I was driving to Scranton everyday to help get my unit ready for the mobilization to Iraq. So, after you look at the numbers, take a moment to reflect in your own life and see how much has gone on in your own lives since that date to today.
To date, I have been on orders for 72.88 weeks between Scranton Pa, Camp Shelby Mississippi, Kuwait and Iraq. To put it in a different perspective, that is 510 days since I went from a typical National Guardsmen (weekend a month, two weeks a year) who was enrolled in college trying to live a normal life to once again a full fledged United States Soldier. So, in the last 510 days, how much has gone on in your town, at work, at school, your friends, family, loved ones? Take a moment and reflect and if possible, leave a comment. I would love to hear some of the little things that get forgotten that come rushing back when actually thought about.
I would love to tell all of my readers exactly how much time is left but unfortunately I am forbidden by law. So I guess you all will just have to stay tuned in till the end.
