Well, its been about a week since I was home on leave and I am now back into the swing of things. Being home was great and I miss it. But, I am over halfway done with this deployment. I am still waiting to find out if I will receive the Purple Heart or not for my incident in September. As for being awarded the CIB, well that is another beast. According to Army regulations which our command seems not to ever follow, says as long as your in an Infantry unit, which I am and hold an infantry job title, which I do, you can receive the CIB. But our higher headquarters looks at it a little differently. Right now on this deployment I am not currently in an infantry job position although back in PA I do. They say I am not eligible for that reason. We are still waiting to see if the award comes back approved or denied. So I may still get it. If not, then I am going to be put in for the new CAB, which stands for Combat Action Badge ( I think). This award was intended for everyone who does not hold an infantry job but does infantry duties. So I may end up being one of the only infantry people in the whole national guard of PA to receive this award IF I am eligible. Reading the regulation on this award doesnt seem like an infantry person can get this award. So I may be caught between a rock and a hard place. Oh well, to live to see another day is worth more than any award.
