Yep, this post is gonna be a gripe. Not against the military, but against companies who thrive off of soldiers screwing them. We as deployed troops look forward to the chance to call home every now and then and hear familiar voices and put a smile on our faces. But companies like AT&T like to screw us. Here is an example.....A soldier bought a 60 minute calling card overseas and decided to call home. After 5 minutes on the phone, the card was used up. The connection fee was 54 MINUTES!!!!! That is an outrage, plain and simple. I understand that not all phone cards bought in the states are international and that the few that soldiers get for free might not be worth too much, but every bit counts. But when you buy them overseas on bases, you should get the best rate. Their is a soldier who in one month spent over $170 on phone cards calling home. That is BULLSHIT straight up. Companies like AT&T can come up with better connection rates, even in third world countries, for soldiers deployed. They even set up the phone banks for us to use THEIR calling cards and STILL charge outrageous connection fees. Something must be done about this rip off. I for one rather email and send snail mail than use their products. Something must be done about these companies who are ripping off soldiers that are protecting their investments and way of life. Shame on them. I hope they are satisfied with how they operate.
enough grumbling tonight.
