It is official, the Army has issued my unit the new uniform replacing the BDU's. These are called ACU (Army Combat Uniform). Isnt the Army so original? Of course the Army doesn't believe in subtleness cuz these are a drastic change from what we used to wear. They changed the design, the colors, how items are worn on the uniform etc. etc. We now velcro things on. Modern technology at its finest moment!!! Myself, I am still wearing the old uniform cuz they ran out of my size pants which is the most common in the Army. Oh, we even wear tan boots now with the new uniform, no more black boots to shine!!! In a way I am glad cuz I used to hate having to get a spit shine on my boots just to get them ruined in the first hour I wore them. But in a way I will also miss wearing black boots. I guess that is the traditionalist in me. Oh well, like anylthing in life it will take time to adjust. My time is winding down here at good ol' Camp Shelby Ms., soon I will be on the plane across the pond to start the biggest adventure to date of my life. The death toll is now at 1550 soldiers since the war started. We are averaging just under 1000 soldiers a year. That never bothered me before but now it makes me think. I guess it really doesnt sink in till you number is called to take the trip to Iraq and than it becomes a part of your life and kinda gives that number life in your eyes. I just pray it is not myself or anyone I know that adds to that number. But life happens so I can only pray.
